Planning your first trip to Pangkor Island? Here’s everything you need to know about getting there — by car, bus, and ferry — step by step.

So you’ve decided to visit Pangkor Island — great choice. Now comes the only tricky part: actually getting here. Don’t worry, it’s simpler than it looks. Here’s everything you need to know.

Step 1: Get to Lumut or Marina Island (on the Mainland)

Pangkor Island has no airport or railway link, so the journey starts on land in the state of Perak. Your gateway is either Lumut Jetty or Marina Island Jetty — both are close to each other, and both connect you to Pangkor by ferry.

🚗 By Car (Self-Drive) From Kuala Lumpur, the drive takes roughly 3 to 3.5 hours. Take the North-South Highway and exit at Bidor, then follow the signboards towards Lumut. From there, you can choose which jetty to head to.

🚌 By Public Bus Prefer not to drive? You can take a bus from TBS Bus Station (KL) directly to Lumut Bus Terminal. Once in Lumut, the main jetty is within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.

💡 Note: Marina Island Jetty is only accessible by self-drive or a short taxi ride (~15 minutes) from Lumut town. There is no direct public bus to Marina Island.

Step 2: Choose Your Jetty

Once you’re in the area, you have two options:

🛳️ Lumut Jetty — The classic route

  • Accessible by car or public bus
  • Ferry crossing to Pangkor takes about 30 minutes
  • Ferries run roughly every 30–45 minutes, from around 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM
  • Round-trip tickets available at the counter

⚡ Marina Island Jetty — The faster option

  • Self-drive only
  • Ferry crossing takes just 10 minutes
  • Tickets can be purchased at the counter or booked online at pangkorferry.com
  • Waze / Google Maps: search “Marina Island Jetty Complex”

⚠️ Ferry schedules may change due to weather or public holidays — always check before you travel.

Step 3: From the Jetty to Your Homestay

Once you arrive at Pangkor Jetty, you’re almost there. Hop on one of the local pink taxi vans (there’s no meter, so agree on the fare before you get in) and they’ll take you straight to us.
